We GOT puppies!

Been a little hectic around here...because on we GOT puppies!
Come Tuesday around 1pm I get a phone call from Steve at work saying "Hi grandma we have some puppies!" For those who don't know we are breeding our two chocolate labs (Chaco and Bailey) for the first time. Well Steve went to go cut grass on Tuesday morning and came back to find two puppies in the puppy birthing box. HOLY MOLY! So I rushed home for like 45 mins to make sure Mommy was doing okay and to see the pups. HOW FLIPPIN' cute they were too. It is just the most amazing experience. Bailey pretty much did everything herself and we just stood there and watched. She would grawl at us when we got more then 5 feet close to her. She was suppose to have 4 and had 5 but a few didn't make it unfortunately. SAD! We talked to the vet and he said that that is pretty common for the first litter and that she may have had them too early (not that she could help it though) since really it should be early this upcoming week. They are only pregnant for 21/2 months so just think how important that last week is. One would have made it but we think she accidentally stepped on it and the other two just weren't fully developed. You may ask why did she step on one....WELL because when they have babies they walk in circles so it is a little hard to see dark puppies moving all over.
Bailey is a proud mommy! This has really been a great experience for us...even though it broke our hearts to bury three puppies but like the vet said you have to let nature take over and if they can't be with their mommy well then they may have something wrong with them....just let nature take its course. It is a little different for puppies then it is for us women.
Here are some pics of the BIG day...more to come....

Look how exhausted she looks...poor girl!

This is just one of many....

Already going for the nipple...

THEN THERE WERE THREE...(so sad!)

So dang SWEET!

PROUD MAMMA!
